PESHAWAR: Begum Corps Commander Peshawar, Lieutenant General Khalid Rabbani here Thursday inaugurated the 41th Annual Chrysanthemum Show 2012 at the Garrison Park in Peshawar Cantonment.
Accompanied by Corps Commander Peshawar, Lt Gen Khalid Rabbani, she inaugurated the three day exhibition by cutting the ribbon here at Garrison Park. The exhibition will continue till December 8, 2012. The corps commander and his wife went around the displayed flowers and took keen interest in it.
Speaking on the occasion, Gen Rabbani said plants and flowers make our environment beautiful, pollution-free and world a better place and by taking part in such an exhibition, we express our aesthetic sense and compliment the wonders of nature.
In the last one year, he said the conditions of roads in the cantonment area have significantly improved due to hectic efforts made by the cantonment board Peshawar. In addition to development of parks, he maintained beautification of roads in cantonment area was further enhanced owing to plantation of various species of flowers.
Gen Rabbani said it was our collective responsibility to plant maximum number of flowers species and plants in open places, residential areas and in front of buildings in cantonment as well as Peshawar to make it again the City of flowers for which it was once famous for.
The Corps Commander suggested these flowers following an end of the
exhibition should be properly utilized by planting it in such places that a common man should able to enjoy beauty of the nature, adding this effort would also help persuade general public to raise flowers.
He said it was our collective responsibility to make our cantonments
and cities clean and lush green. The Corps Commander appreciated the efforts of organizers and participants for holding such a unique and colourful flowers show that reflects their endless love to beauty of nature.
He also commended the efforts of Air Headquarters and Cantonment Board Peshawar for their extra ordinary performance in the exhibition. On this occasion, the Corps Commander distributed trophies in different categories among successful participants of the show and lauded the efforts of organizers.
The overall winners trophy of Governor Challenge Cup was won by the Air Headquarters while the Cantonment Board Peshawar clinched the Chief Minister Challenge Cup Trophy. Earlier, the Cantonment Board Executive Officer presented the welcome address and apprised the participants about the background and importance of holding such an event on yearly basis.
A large number of people including retired military and civil officers
and elites of the City attended the show on the first day and took keen interest in the different types of Gul e Dawoodi.
Fakhar Khan, a citizen who also visited the Garrison Park on the first
day to witness the show said in the prevailing situation, the show has provided a healthy and unique opportunity to the residents of Peshawar to come with their families and enjoy the event in congenital environment.
He said he was very impressed with quality fragrance of Ane Mone specie and others distinct varieties of Gul e Dawoodi and has lauded the endeavours of the Cantonment Board Peshawar for organizing such a successful event.
