LAHORE: Dense fog descended on Lahore and other parts of the region, forcing closure of the Allama Iqbal International Airport and the Lahore-Islamabad section of the Motorway, Geo News reported on Monday.
Sources said that the airport has been shut till morning 8:00 AM after dense fog blanketed Lahore and its suburbs, forcing the closure of runway due to low visibility.
The sources said national and international flights to and from Lahore have been diverted to other cities of the country
while many flights have been cancelled.
Severe cold weather gripped the city with dense fog causing problems for travellers.
It also prompted the Motorway police to suspend traffic on (M2) Lahore-Islamabad section of the Motorway as visibility plunged to zero in large swathes of the region.
In a statement the police said that the motorway had been closed from Babu Sabu Interchange (Lahore) to Pindi Bhattian Interchange (Faisalabad) due to thick fog. They said that the visibility was zero in different areas.
The Motorway Police said that the highway would remain closed for the traffic until the visibility improved.
It also advised motorists to switch on fog-lights while driving and travel in convoys as part of safety measures.
