SHANGHAI: Shanghai Tourism Festival 2011 opened on Saturday in Shanghai International Fashion Center with a grand parade on Huaihai Road, which attracted more than 500,000 tourists.
A total of 21 floats and 30 perform teams from across the world participated in the parade.
Not only cities of Yangtze River Delta, like Suzhou and Hangzhou, but also Shandong and Macau sent their floats this time. Floats with characteristics of ethnic minorities, sent by Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and Tibet Autonomous Region, also took part in the parade. Moreover, foreign countries like Japan, South Korea and Indonesia also sent their floats in order to show their tourist attractions and local cuisine.
More than 40 activities will be staged in the following month , including International Music and Firework Festival and Painted Boats Parade
Moreover, over 30 tourist attractions in Shanghai, like the Madame Tussauds, the 88th sightseeing hall of the Jinmao Tower, the sightseeing hall of the Shanghai World Financial Center and the Shanghai Oceanarium, will sell tickets at discounted prices during the festival.
