'It is permissible to starve the citizens of Gaza', the European Union and the United Kingdom condemn the Israeli minister
The European Union, France and Britain have condemned the Israeli minister's statement that it would be "justified and morally right" to starve Gaza's two million population.
According to the AFP news agency, right-wing Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Sumatrish said during a press conference that "no one in the world will allow us to starve a population of two million, even though it would be legal and morally correct to do so." So that the hostages can be released.'
"We are bringing humanitarian aid because we have no choice," he said. We are in a situation where we need international legitimacy to continue the war.
"We expect the Israeli government to clearly dissociate itself from the minister's statement," the statement added.
The European Union has again called for an "immediate ceasefire" and the release of hostages and increased aid distribution to the Gaza Strip.
France has also expressed regret by criticizing the Israeli minister's statement.
France said that it is Israel's responsibility under international humanitarian law to deliver humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza because Israel controls all of the territory.
British Foreign Minister David Lemmy wrote on the social media platform X that "Minister Sumatrish's statement has no justification" and at the same time demanded the Israeli government to withdraw the statement and condemn it.
Gaza is facing its worst humanitarian situation since the war began on October 7 last year, with 2.4 million people displaced and suffering from food shortages.
