RIYADH: New anti-corruption regulations are coming into effect which will stamp out misuse of funds in all government departments.
The regulations will force government and ministerial officials dealing with financial affairs to present documents proving they have the necessary financial clearance.
Muhammad Al-Shareef, Chairman of the National Anti-Corruption Commission, said the commission will be playing an important role in following up and monitoring government projects and preventing any type of corruption after the recent budgetary allocations.
He called on all sections of Saudi society to help the commission carry out its work. "The commission reposes its hopes on society helping to report any type of corruption and lack of public services," he said.
Al-Shareef also revealed the commission has designed a whistle-blowing mechanism whereby a citizen who reveals corruption will be given the right to anonymity and full protection from any harm.
The commission was set up in March this year and directly reports to the King.
